Eligibility
•Must be an international applicant residing outside Japan who will enter Japan as a new international student
•Must hold nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan
•Must demonstrate outstanding academic performance with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.30 out of 3.00 on the MEXT grading scale in the most recent two academic years
•Must meet the required language proficiency criteria in English (e.g., CEFR B2 level or higher, TOEFL iBT, IELTS) or Japanese (JLPT N2 or higher)
•Must be born on or after April 2, 1991 (generally under 35 years of age at the time of enrollment)
•Must obtain consent of acceptance from a prospective academic supervisor at Tokyo Tech prior to formal application submission
•Must acquire a 'Student' visa before entering Japan
•Must be in good physical and mental health
Details
The Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship through University Recommendation (General Selection) offers full funding for outstanding international students seeking to pursue Master's or Doctoral degree studies at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech / Institute of Science Tokyo).
Applicants are evaluated and nominated through Tokyo Tech's International Graduate Program (A) [IGP (A)]. Interested candidates must explore Tokyo Tech's academic departments, identify a faculty member whose research field aligns with their interests, and obtain preliminary consent for supervision before submitting their formal application documents.
Financial Benefits
•Full exemption from the university application fee, admission fee, and tuition fees for the standard duration of the program
•Monthly living allowance/stipend of approximately 144,000 JPY for Master's students and 145,000 JPY for Doctoral students (subject to change and potential regional supplements)
