Details

The Swiss Confederation awards Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships annually to promote international research cooperation and academic exchange between Switzerland and over 180 countries. The scholarships are intended for young researchers from abroad who have completed a Master's degree or PhD, and for foreign artists holding a Bachelor's degree. Scholarships are available for research fellowships, doctoral degrees, post-doctoral research, and Master's degrees in the arts at public Swiss universities, federal institutes of technology (ETH Zurich and EPFL), universities of applied sciences, and art and music schools.

Eligibility Criteria

Master's degree or equivalent obtained before the start of the scholarship (for Research, PhD, and Arts scholarships)
PhD degree granted after specific academic threshold (for Postdoctoral scholarships)
Applicants must provide a confirmation letter from an academic supervisor at a Swiss higher education institution agreeing to supervise the research
Strong academic profile and research proposal
Proficient in the language of instruction/research (English, German, French, or Italian depending on the host university)
Applicant must be a national of an eligible country participating in the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship program

Financial Benefits

Monthly living stipend (CHF 1,920/month for PhD and Research scholars; CHF 2,700/month for Postdoctoral scholars)
Mandatory Swiss health insurance provided by the Federal Commission for Scholarships (FCS)
Allowance for housing (one-off lump sum of CHF 300 at the beginning of the grant)
Exemption from university tuition fees in most host institutions
Flight/transportation allowance for scholars from eligible non-European countries
Public transport half-fare travelcard for Switzerland
Support services, networking events, trips, and social activities organized for scholars
