Eligibility
•Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
•Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
•Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year
•Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard, or a second class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master's degree)
•Not be registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, at a UK university or in your home country before the scholarship commences
•Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship
•Provide all supporting documentation, including references, educational transcripts, and a detailed research proposal
Details
Commonwealth PhD Scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and administered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the UK. The scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the advanced knowledge and skills required for sustainable development.
The scholarships support full-time doctoral study at UK universities across six development themes:
•Science and technology for development
•Strengthening health systems and capacity
•Promoting global prosperity
•Strengthening global peace, security and governance
•Strengthening resilience and response to crises
•Access, inclusion and opportunity
Financial Benefits
•Approved return airfare from the scholar's home country to the UK
•Full coverage of approved tuition fees
•Monthly stipend (living allowance) of £1,347 per month, or £1,652 per month for scholars at universities in the London metropolitan area
•Warm clothing allowance, where applicable
•Study travel grant towards the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas
•Provision towards the costs of fieldwork undertaken overseas
•Paid mid-term visit airfare to the home country
•Family allowances, including spouse and child allowances where eligible
