Eligibility
•Excellently qualified young academics and scientists who have completed a Master's degree or Diplom (or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree/Fast Track) at the latest by the time funding begins
•As a general rule, applicants should not have graduated any longer than six years before the application closing date
•Applicants who have been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline cannot be considered
•Proof of contacts and confirmation of academic supervision by a university teacher in Germany (for individual doctoral projects) or admission letter to a structured doctoral study programme
•A convincing, well-planned, and academically sound research proposal outlining the methodology and work schedule
•Adequate German or English language skills, depending on the language of instruction and research in the chosen doctoral programme
Details
The DAAD Research Grants - Doctoral Programmes in Germany provide foreign doctoral candidates and young academics and scientists with the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree at a state or state-recognised university or non-university research institution in Germany.
Funding is available for either an individual doctoral project supervised by a university professor or participation in a structured doctoral study programme. The maximum funding duration is up to four years, initially granted for up to one year and extended upon successful evaluation of the academic progress.
Financial Benefits
•Monthly grant payment of 1,300 euros for doctoral candidates
•Payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage in Germany
•Travel allowance (lump-sum travel subsidy to and from Germany)
•One-off annual research allowance
•Monthly rent subsidy under certain circumstances
•Monthly allowance for accompanying family members (spouse and/or children) under certain conditions
•German language course coverage (online or in Germany) prior to the start of the research stay, if applicable
