Details

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as Undergraduate Students. The scholarship period will last for five years (seven years for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or a six-year course in pharmacy), including a one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects provided upon arrival in Japan. Applications are typically processed through Japanese embassies or consulates in the applicant's home country.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.
Age: Applicants must meet the specific age requirements for the application year (typically born on or after April 2 of a specific year, making them 17-25 years old).
Academic Background: Applicants must have completed 12 years of regular school education or possess equivalent academic qualifications recognized by MEXT.
Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan.
Health: Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant's study in Japan.
Arrival in Japan: Applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between April 1 and April 7 of the admission year.

Financial Benefits

Allowance: A monthly stipend of 117,000 JPY (an added supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 JPY or 3,000 JPY per month will be added for those studying or researching in specially designated regions).
Education Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be fully paid by MEXT.
Travel Expenses: Round-trip economy class air ticket between the international airport closest to the applicant's residence in their home country and an international airport in Japan.
