Details

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship was established in October 2000 by a donation of $210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge. Each year, Gates Cambridge offers approximately 80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The selection criteria emphasize academic excellence, leadership capacity, a commitment to improving the lives of others, and a good fit with Cambridge.

Eligibility Criteria

Be a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
Apply for a full-time residential postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge (PhD, MSc/MLitt, or a 1-year postgraduate course such as MPhil, LLM, MASt)
Demonstrate exceptional academic excellence
Provide a compelling reason for choice of course
Display a strong commitment to improving the lives of others
Demonstrate capacity for leadership

Financial Benefits

Full cost of University Composition Fee
Maintenance allowance (£20,000 per year for a single student)
One economy single airfare at the beginning and end of the course
Inbound visa costs and Immigration Health Surcharge
Discretionary funding for academic development (conferences and courses)
Family allowance for dependent children
Fieldwork funding and hardship support
